Corrie’s Millie Gibson shares heartbreaking nod hidden in Kelly’s final scenes

Coronation Street favourite Kelly Neelan is set to finally exit the cobbles this month after actress Millie Gibson handed in her notice on the ITV soap.

But the star has now revealed a tragic secret behind her last on-screen appearance, amid fears her character will be killed off in a brutal plot alongside guardian Gary Windass.

Kelly is set to find out the truth about her dad Rick's murder at Gary's hands, and hires a hitman on her former hero to exact her revenge. But it all goes wrong and villain Keiron double-crosses Kelly, leaving both their lives on the line.

Culminating in a tense rooftop scene, speculation has been growing among fans that Kelly won't make it past her 18th birthday.

Speaking to Daily Star and other press about her exit, Millie explained that she plans to take a souvenir from set home with her.

She said: "I’m going to take Kelly’s puffer coat, the massive fur coat that’s the most ridiculous coat ever.

"It looks like a bin-bag – that black bin-bag coat with fur on the hood, she wears it all the time in winter and every time it’s summer I think, 'God, I miss that coat!'

"I feel like her when I’m wearing it so I’m going to take that for sure."

Teasing a bit of behind-the-scenes action, she added: "This is a bit of a spoiler but I made sure that in my last scene I was wearing that coat."

But what does Millie have in mind for the future? The young actress is already auditioning for other projects.

She explained: "I’ve got so many roles in mind, and I’m trying to keep myself grounded but at the same time trying to bet on myself. I just don’t know if it’s going to happen.

"I’d love to do a drama again, I think a period drama would be incredible – but I’d have to take my lashes off! Anything with Jodie Comer in as well!"

Millie admitted she gets "choked up" when thinking of leaving her co-stars Mikey North (Gary) and Samia Longchambon (Maria), gushing: "They’ve been my rocks, they’ve betted on me throughout my whole experience and they were so supportive when I told them I was thinking of leaving.

"I couldn’t have asked for a better response from them, they were so lovely about it. I’ve known Mikey for four years now, and over this period I’ve seen him more than my dad! I’ve been working with him non-stop and he’s such an easy person to work with."

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV
