Corrie’s Abi baby loss heartache as she fights for Alfie in tense court battle

There's more tragedy in store next week for Coronation Street's Abi Webster, as she looks set to lose her baby son Alfie all over again.

The youngster had been living with his biological dad Imran Habeeb and his wife Toyah after they won custody over him, with Imran lying about Abi buying drugs in court.

With Imran dead, Abi and Kevin are determined to get Alfie back – but will they succeed?

Corrie spoilers have revealed that Imran's funeral lands next week, with Toyah delivering a heartfelt eulogy as she tells mourners she wishes Imran had survived the car crash instead of her.

Adam and Alya, however, are left looking sceptical. After the funeral, Peter informs his ex about Adam's allegation, telling her the police have questioned him over Susie and her desperation for a baby.

Terrified, Toyah heads to the police station and tells DS Swain she needs to discuss some things.

Leanne is worried about her sister and calls at the station determined to stand by her. Meanwhile, Toyah makes it clear to the cops she didn't mean to kill Imran or herself, and she won't lie about it.

In Abi's world, she learns she needs to reapply for custody of Alfie and that the hearing is tomorrow. After a call from her social worker, Abi is left despondent as she tells her husband the best she can hope for is custody of her son under the supervision of a foster carer.

Debbie warns Kevin to think carefully before taking on the responsibility of Alfie, and Jack accidentally overhears that Kevin had an affair with Molly behind Tyrone's back which resulted in his birth.

The lad struggles to take it all in, but dazedly wishes Abi and Kevin good luck at the hearing.

In the court waiting room, Abi doesn't hesitate to slag off the judicial system to a woman sitting nearby. And with the hearing about to start, she realises she's put her foot in it in a major way – and the woman is actually the judge.

Sure she's ruined any chance she had of winning Alfie back, Abi listens as the local authority solicitor lists her various failings as a mother, recommending Alfie remain in care.

Is she set to lose him all over again?

It's not set in stone, as the judge orders Alfie be placed with his mum in a mother and baby fostering facility, where Abi will be assessed.

She's introduced to Wendy Papadapoulos, their foster carer – and Ken Barlow's ex. When Abi reveals she’s from Coronation Street, Wendy keeps her counsel.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8pm on ITV.
