And when Johnny tried to visit the guard, who was called Grant, he bumped into his mother Margaret.
Johnny was devastated when Margaret revealed that her son died an alcoholic years ago after surviving an awful robbery.
Speaking about the incident, she said: "There was a getaway car outside and they started to pull away when Grant came out and tried to stop them and they run him over, like a dog in the street."
She continued: "When he got out of hospital and moved back home he wasn't the same. His confidence went out of the window,
"He got depressed, he started to drink. He wouldn't see any of his mates or meet up with them, not even his fiancee."
Next week’s episodes of Coronation Street will see Johnny have a heart-to-heart with Jenny.
He tells her that seeing alcoholic Peter suffer a relapse reminded him of Grant and his death.
Jenny tells Johnny he should try and move on.
But later, Carla finds Jenny in tears and quizzes her about what’s going on.
When Jenny tells her everything about Johnny’s past, Carla goes to talk to Johnny, telling him they’ve both done things they regret.
Later, Margaret calls at the Rovers and tells Jenny she’s the mother of the security guard who was injured in the hit and run.
A horrified Johnny confesses he was responsible for her son’s death.
Jenny begs Margaret not to go to the police and tells her he suffers from MS, but Margaret storms off without reassuring Jenny.
