Coronation Street legend bids farewell to the Cobbles after ITV soap exit
Coronation Street icon Maureen Lipman – who plays the role of Tyrone Dobbs' grandmother on the ITV soap – has announced she will be leaving the show.
Fans of the Cobbles will know Maureen has become a big part of the team on the long running show over the last couple of years after starring in a number of big storylines.
But the much-loved actress has decided to take a break from appearing on the silver screen as she prepares to take an extended break from the series to focus on her new role in the West End.

The performer will be taking centre-stage later this year and performing a one-woman show titled Rose.
The play tells a story of a woman who travels from Nazi-occupied Europe in order to start a new life for herself in the heart of America.
Luckily for devastated fans, the star won’t be leaving the soap forever after an insider reassured viewers she would be returning in the near future.
The source told The Sun: “Maureen will be departing Corrie for Rose, she will be returning to the soap.
“Maureen will be taking a short break from the cobbles to star in the play.”
Over the years, Maureen’s character Evelyn has become a staple in the ITV show who is known for her sharp tongue and sarcastic wit.
Despite appearances, the loving grandmother takes no prisoners when it comes to sharing her opinions, but Maureen has previously explained she is worlds apart from her onscreen character.
She previously told The Mirror: “You can’t be Evelyn in today’s climate. You can’t make jokes that I would normally make. I am watching myself carefully.
“At the same time, I am an intelligent person and I want a better world. I don’t know how I identify and I am watching carefully as to how this plays out because prejudice is prejudice, however you dress it up.”

Most recently, Evelyn decided to involve herself in Tyrone (Alan Halsall) and Fiz Stape’s (Jennie McAlpine) relationship.
Before they got married, Tyrone had been unfaithful and sought the attention of another woman behind Fiz’s back.
In an attempt to keep the spark alive in their relationship, the couple decided to spend the night away together at a hotel but kept their naughty getaway a secret from everyone else.
But it didn’t take long before Evelyn became suspicious of her grandson’s activities and decided to take matters into her own hands.
