Coronation Street fans went wild on Monday night as they recognised newcomer Orla Crawshaw star Carla Mendonça from the iconic children's TV show My Parents Are Aliens.

During the latest instalment, David Platt and Daniel Osbourne met with the Deputy Head of Weatherfield High to discuss David's adopted son Max Turner's recent behaviour.

However, eagle-eyed soap watchers were left distracted during the scenes as they instantly recognised Orla Crawshaw star Carla Mendonça from My Parents Are Aliens.

My Parents Are Aliens ran between 1999 and 2006 on CITV and Carla, 56, played Sophie Johnson on the popular children's TV show.

Eagle-eyed soap watchers were quick to recognise the star as they took to Twitter to share their excitement over the discovery.

One person said: 'Sophie from My Parents Are Aliens as the teacher on Corrie! #corrie."

A different account put: "Just realised the head teacher on Corrie is the mum from my parents are aliens! #corrie #coronationstreet."

Another follower commented: "I don’t know if anyone remembers or realises but the head teacher at Max’s school was out of a childrens show called My Parents Are Aliens, I’m pretty sure I’m right #Corrie."

A different soap watcher wrote: "The mum from My Parents Are Aliens is on #corrie. A blast from the past!"

While another fan added: "Stop the press. Sophie (my parents are aliens) BRIIIAAANNN is on Corrie !! #corrie."

During the scenes, David accused Daniel of "victimising" his son Max after he claimed that the youngster had stolen his wallet.

Daniel had to apologise for throwing Max's bag and grabbing his jacket, although he refused to say sorry for accusing Max of stealing his wallet, with an angry David insisting he wanted him sacked.

Things took a turn for the worse when David went to the police, accusing Daniel of assaulting his son, however he later dropped the charges saying it was a "misunderstanding" due to realising his son had taken the wallet.
