Coronation Street Curtis’ dad actor’s career – from rival soap role to cameos
Coronation Street will welcome a new resident on the cobbles in coming episodes when he makes a surprise appearance as Curtis Delamere’s "dead" dad, Neville.
Fans will watch serial liar Curtis squirm as he has to explain to his fiancé Emma why his dad has seemingly returned from the grave, ultimately deceiving her further by dubbing him his stepdad.
As the drama unfolds, eagle-eyed viewers may notice that the new addition, actor Mark Cameron, has appeared in major soap rival Emmerdale.
Daily Star takes a look at Mark’s previous appearance on the other ITV soap, and his other appearances on Corrie before landing his new role.
Rival soap role
As Mark gets ready to walk on to the Cobbles and bring a series of dramatic scenes to the upcoming wedding of his son, Curtis, fans may remember the veteran soap actor from one of Corrie’s biggest rival soaps, Emmerdale.
Actor Mark portrayed Detective Sean Rossi in Emmerdale between 1996 and 2000 and was involved in a number of storylines, including his sordid revelation to girlfriend Kathy that he'd spent time in prison for knocking down and killing his daughter Sarah whilst drunk at the wheel.
Mark’s character Sean, who was employed as a chef at The Old School Tearooms, left the village in September 1996 but returned in January 1997 in a bid to win back Kathy’s affections after learning her husband Dave Glover had died.
When Sean was ultimately rejected by Kathy he left the soap for good after appearing in the soap 52 times.
Serial soap star
Having started as a stand-up comedian before winning a scholarship to drama school, the Newcastle-born actor has had his fair share of appearances on some of Britain’s most beloved soaps.
As he gets set to walk onto the Cobbles, super fans may recognise actor Mark from several former appearances the Mancunian soap.
Mark, 52, made his Corrie debut as DI Parks intermittently between 2006 and 2007, before returning briefly in 2017 as con-man Stuart Pollock and online scammer Lenny Schnitzer.
Mark has also played Dr Hugh Thompson in BBC soap EastEnders between 2014 and 2016 and has appeared in Doctors, The Royals, Casualty, and in ITV drama Tina and Bobby, to name a few.
Outside of soap land Mark took to the big screen playing Leeds United icon Norman Hunter in The Damned United and appeared in the movie Scar Tissue.
As part of a troubling storyline involving his on-screen son Curtis his fiancé Emma Brooker as they prepare for their winter wedding, Mark Cameron will arrive on the Street after Emma decides to invite Curtis' family over for the celebration without telling him.
Emma is stunned when Neville introduces himself to her as Curtis' dad, as Curtis had previously told her that his father is dead.
Quick to cover up his lies, Curtis tells Emma that Neville is actually his stepdad. Although Mark’s character Neville is hurt when he realises that Curtis has told Emma he's dead, he reluctantly agrees to go along with the lie.
With Mark’s appearance imminent, fans will have to wait just a few more days to see just how far Curtis and Neville will go to keep the wool over Emma's eyes and how embroiled Neville will become in Curtiss spiral of lies as he attempts to rebuild a relationship with his estranged son.
