Bridgerton season two was given the green light by Netflix, much to the delight of fans. The romantic period drama series will see Anthony Bridgerton (played by Jonathan Bailey) find love in the second instalment. Viewers are wondering whether his initial love interest in the books, Edwina Sheffield, will feature in the series.
Will Edwina Sheffield star in season 2?
Bridgerton went down a huge hit with fans as they were hooked on the gossip and scandal in Mayfair.
The series is set in Regency London, during the marriage season, when debutants set out to find their perfect match.
In the first season, Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) found love with the Duke of Hastings, Simon Basset (Regé-Jean Page).
The notorious Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews) revealed season two will continue to follow the Julia Quinn novels.
In the book titled The Viscount Who Loved Me, Anthony Bridgerton chooses a wife – Edwina Sheffield.
However, he finds himself captivated with her older sister Kate (to be played by Simone Ashley).
Fans of the books have taken to Reddit to discuss whether Edwina will also be cast in season two.
They said she acts as an obstacle for Anthony in the novel, but they have suggested she may not feature as a main character in the series.
The fans have instead suggested Anthony’s lover Siena (Sabrina Bartlett) from season one will reprise her role as his main distraction.
One viewer said: “Does anyone else think that Edwina will no longer be a character in this show? That Anthony/Kate’s angst will be Siena instead of Edwina?
“I just can’t see them having two women as obstacles. It would be absurd. And Siena isn’t going to disappear into the night.
“So that makes me think they will either not have Edwina as a potential candidate for Anthony or just not introduce the character at all.”
Other fans of the books have suggested Edwina is pivotal to the plot, so she should feature in season two.
One said: “The whole plot is Anthony wanting Kate’s approval so he can marry Edwina without love. I honestly think they will cast her family.”
Another said: “Edwina isn’t a real obstacle or a huge source of angst, though. Her and Anthony barely interact in the books. But the family dynamic between Edwina, Mary, and Kate is VERY important.”

Viewers have suggested Edwina is crucial in introducing Kate to the story as she is the next star of the season.
One fan shared some information about a casting call, which included roles for both Kate and Edwina.
The post says casting directors are looking for a “mixed caucasian/Indian female playing age 20-26.”
The fan went on to say: “That means Edwina will have a pretty significant role. They probably going to expand it with the Eloise/Edwina friendship that was teased in the books.
“They probably also going to show Edwina’s own love story. Edwina definitely will have a larger presence than Sienna.”
No-one has been cast as Edwina at the time of writing, but actress Ashley has just secured the role of Kate.
In the books, Kate is trying to stop Anthony from courting her younger sister, and Anthony ends up falling for Kate instead.
Hopefully, Edwina will play a bigger role in the series, with most fans suggesting Siena will fade into the background.
One said: “I think Siena will have disappeared next season. The whole gist of Anthony and Kate’s initial conflict is that she’s trying to stop him from courting her sister.
“Not sure how else they can create that tension between Kate and Anthony if it’s not based on her trying to protect Edwina. Basing it on jealousy of Siena seems off.”
