Black Ops welcomes Beyond Paradise and Famalam stars to BBC comedy

Black Ops is a six-episode series coming to BBC One on May 5 and it follows two eager officers who end up going undercover to infiltrate a gang of villains.

As they pose as disgruntled former officers, with the motivations of the DI who sent them becoming increasingly unclear, things take an unexpected turn.

They are tasked with carrying out a grisly mission which throws their undercover operation and their lives into turmoil.

The comedy thriller features some big names as well as up-and-coming stars. has all you need to know about who is in the cast.

Dominique ‘Dom’ Archibald – Gbemisola Ikumelo

Dom is played by Gbemisola Ikumelo, a British actress, comedian and writer known for her work on Brain in Gear.

Viewers will also recognise her from the series Famalam, for which she won best female comedy performance from the Royal Television Society.

Sharing a teaser for her latest project on Instagram, she said: “SO SO excited for you to see our cast of acting giants such as @hammedhamz @jazhutchins @katherinekel @msjomartin @alex.macqueen2018 @robbie.gee1 do their thing!”

Kayode ‘Kay’ Ogundare – Hammed Animashaun

Dom’s colleague Kay is played by Hammed Animashaun, known for playing Loial in Prime Video’s The Wheel of Time.

His other credits include Breeders, Pls Like and Black Mirror.

Speaking to about his latest role in Black Ops he said: “I loved working with Gbemi.

“I’ve been the biggest fan of hers for the longest time, so having the opportunity to work with her was definitely a tick off the bucket list. She’s family now! Hopefully she’d say the same.”

Detective Inspector Clinton Blair – Ariyon Bakare

The DI instructing the two officers on their mission is played by Ariyon Bakare, a British actor, writer and director.

The 51-year-old is known for his roles in Doctors, Good Omens and Carnival Row, as well as His Dark Materials.

He is also a familiar face on BBC serial dramas such as The Bill, Casualty, and Holby City.

Tevin – Akemnji Ndifornyen

Tevin is played by Akemnji Ndifornyen, an actor, writer, composer and producer.

He is best known for the BBC series Leonardo as well as his role in Doctors.

In 2019, he was awarded a BAFTA for his work on the hit BBC comedy series Famalam.

Superintendent Edwards – Felicity Montagu

Superintendent Edwards is played by Felicity Montagu, a 62-year-old English actress.

The star is best known for playing Lynn Benfield, the assistant of Steve Coogan’s Alan Partridge.

More recently, she played Margot Martins in the Death in Paradise spin-off, Beyond Paradise.

Chief Inspector Garner – Joanna Scanlan

Chief Inspector Garner is played by Joanna Scanlan, a 61-year-old British actress known for The Thick of It and Getting On.

Her notable film appearances include Girl With a Pearl Earring and Notes on a Scandal.

More recently, she played Ma Larkin in the ITV series The Larkins and featured in Gentleman Jack.

Inspector Scholes – Rufus Jones

Inspector Scholes is played by Rufus Jones, a 47-year-old actor and comedian known for being one fifth of the comedy group Dutch Elm Conservatoire.

His most notable TV roles were in Hunderby, W1A and The Casual Vacancy.

He has guest starred in a number of hits including the Death in Paradise spin-off, Beyond Paradise.

Julie Archibald – Jo Martin

Julie Archibald is played by Jo Martin, a British actress who played Natalie Crouch in the BBC’s The Crouches.

Viewers may also recognise her as Max McGerry from Holby City and as an incarnation of the Doctor known as the Fugitive Doctor in Doctor Who.

Kirsty – Katherine Kelly

Kirsty is played by Katherine Kelly, a 43-year-old English actress and presenter.

After first appearing in Last of the Summer Wine, she rose to prominence for her role as Becky McDonald in the ITV soap Coronation Street, between 2006 and 2012.

Black Ops airs on BBC One from Friday, May 5 at 9.30pm
