BBC Strictly Come Dancing bosses ‘want to sign up’ Lionesses star for new series

Strictly bosses want to score one of the Lionesses for the new series.

The team’s sensational Euros victory has made them hot property.

And execs on the show reckon getting a player to be contestant would be TV gold.

Goal scorer Chloe Kelly is said to be their top target.

A show insider said: "England’s Lionesses have united the country. Strictly producers are very keen to cash in on this and get one of them on the new series.

"They have already made an approach and it’s hoped a deal could be made within days."

The team’s 2-1 victory over Germany last weekend pulled in the biggest viewing figures of 2022 with 17million fans tuning in.

Our insider added: "There is so much interest in the Lionesses at the moment. The public can’t get enough of them. Getting a player on the dance floor is a guaranteed ratings winner."

If a player signs up they are likely to miss World Cup qualifiers planned for this autumn.

But Strictly is so popular so one of them taking part in the BBC dance contest could help make women’s footie even more popular.

Producers have just a few weeks to get one of them to sign on the dotted line as the launch show is being filmed early next month.

Stars tipped to take part include former Corrie star Kym Marsh, footie legend Tony Adams, chef Gino D’Campo and presenter Steph McGovern.

In recent days, Corrie actress Kym Marsh has been confirmed to join the line-up, alongside Will Mellor, Kaye Adam and Richie Anderson and comedian Jayde Adams.

Soap star Kym said: "I’ve considered doing Strictly for years but the timings never worked out.

"I'm so delighted that this year they have!

She added: "I’m a huge fan of the show and can’t believe I’m going to go from watching at home in my pyjamas to actually dancing in front of the judges in a glittery dress, it’s unreal!"
