BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker tells Sally Nugent ‘love you’ as she joins as host

Dan Walker has told his new permanent colleague Sally Nugent that he “loves her” as he officially welcomed her onto the iconic red sofa.

The Strictly Come Dancing star gushed over his new co-presenter as she officially started her first week as a full-time presenter and passed on his congratulations in person.

As she presented her first morning show with the successful ballroom dancer, the 50-year-old broadcaster couldn’t help but share her thanks for all the congratulatory messages she got online after her permanent position was announced.

While the pair shared their thoughts on her new role in the BBC Breakfast hub, doting dad Dan confessed his love for his new sidekick on the most popular morning show on air.

After the pair finished interviewing Countdown star Susie Dent, the 44-year-old shared the news for viewers at home who missed the announcement online.

He started with: “One other thing I haven’t mentioned today which I need to is I need to say congratulations to you Sally, ‘cause last week, you might have seen, Sally is the new permanent presenter on this programme taking over from Louise.

“You got so many lovely messages about it last week, didn’t you?” he asked.

Sally confessed: “It was a little bit overwhelming, I have to say. When the news was announced on Wednesday, word finally got out there.

“Thank you everybody who sent me all those messages, I'm trying to get back to as many people as I can.

“But everybody was so, so, nice I couldn’t quite believe it. I was just delighted to be here.”

The Strictly star went on to reassure his co-star: “Well, there are so many people who are happy for you, I know it must be really weird that you’ve been doing the job without knowing that you’ve permanently got the job.

“The team absolutely love you. There are so many people who work here who think you are brilliant.”

As the producers ushered the pair to move onto the next segment, Dan added: “I am so happy to sit here, next to you, for hopefully many years together. So, well done, congratulations to yourself.”

Sally continued: “I couldn’t be happier thank you so much it’s a real honour. And all the women who have sat here before me have been brilliant."

Before they moved on, Dan added: “Well done, Sal, love you,” to which she fondly replied: “Love you too.”
