Bake Off fans emotional as semi-final bakers wear ties in tribute to Henry Bird
Great British Bake Off fans were loving the semi-finalists touching tribute to ex-contestant Henry Bird.
Steph Blackwell, 28, Alice Fevronia, 28, Rosie Brandreth-Poynter, 28, and David Atherton, 36, took on patisserie in a bid to land a place in the final.
In a nice nod to the 20-year-old, who was voted off the week before, the bakers decided to wear ties in the tent to make sure his presence was felt.
Steph explained:’We’re wearing tie for young Henry, who we miss intensely.’
David added: ‘He’s living on in us this week, but it’s quite hot in the tent…’
Their ties didn’t last long as the heat of the tent quickly got to them and they whipped them off so they could focus.
Fans watching along at home were loving the gesture.
The Durham student was known for dressing smartly in the tent, wearing shirts and ties.
Henry himself previously hinted that the semi-finalists would be ‘wearing something a bit different’ in the episode.
He tweeted: ‘I hear the beautiful semi-finalists may be wearing something a bit different for tonight’s SEMI FINAL…’, adding a shirt and tie emoji and a red heart.
Henry being voted off by judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith was one of the biggest shocks of the series so far.
It came after the baker seemingly paid his own tribute to fellow contestant Helena, by wearing a brooch in the shape of a spider’s web.
Helena was known for her love of all things spooky, and viewers loved her obsession with gothic-inspired bakes.
One of her creations was a prohibition cake based on the vodka cocktail Vampire’s Kiss, using her own homemade raspberry vodka.
But sadly it wasn’t enough to keep her on the show, and she was sent home along with Michelle in a double elimination.
It won’t be the first time contestants have given an ex-Bake Off star a shout out.
Last year the remaining bakers wore Hawaiian shirts in tribute to Jon Jenkins after he was booted off.
Tonight’s episode will see Steph Blackwell, 28, Alice Fevronia, 28, Rosie Brandreth-Poynter, 28, and David Atherton, 36, take on patisserie in a bid to land a place in next week’s final.
The Great British Bake Off airs tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
