Ant and Dec surprise Pride Of Britain winner best friends in heartwarming scenes

Ant and Dec surprised best friends, Hughie Higginson and Freddie Xavi, during Daily Mirror’s Pride Of Britain Awards, which was aired on Thursday night.

It was revealed that the duo had won the GMB Young Fundraiser gong after they raised more than £220,000 for Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.

Hughie was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in 2020 with one of the side effects of chemotherapy leaving him with a sore jaw.

After realising his best friend's pain was soothed with a frozen slushy drink, Freddie vowed to run 2K a day for 50 days so he could raise £1000 to buy everyone on the chemotherapy ward at Manchester Children's Hospital one of the beverages.

On Christmas Day, the final run, Freddie was joined by Hughie on the finishing line with the two best friends raising more than £220,000.

Speaking in a VT, the best friends admitted that people call them a "mini Ant and Dec" as they were treated to a day out at I'm A Celebrity Jungle Challenge for their hard work.

But what they didn't realise was Ant and Dec were secretly hiding at the venue before surprising the duo in heartwarming scenes.

And the surprises were far from over as during the ceremony, where they were handed their award, the best friends were surprised by KSI on stage.

Talking about their friendship, Hughie sweetly said: "The bond between us is unbreakable, we will be friends forever."

While Freddie added: "We're best friends for life and we're basically brothers!"

Viewers were left in tears over the scenes as they took to Twitter to praise the two winners.

One person said: "Sitting here, happy sobbing at the courage, determination and deep friendship of those wonderful little boys Hughie and Freddie – what an inspiration you both are. Congratulations on your @gmb Young Fundraiser of the Year Award xx #PrideOfBritain."

A different account put: "Pride of Britain Awards Hughie and Freddie you’re two very special little boys to say I’m sobbing would be an understatement #PrideOfBritain."
