Alison Hammond says gastric band surgery is ‘not an easy road’ to losing weight

This Morning host Alison Hammond has opened up about her experience of having a gastric band fitted during a candid phone call with a viewer.

Alison, who was presenting the ITV show alongside TV husband Dermot O’Leary, drew on her personal life when a lady called in asking whether she should consider having weight loss surgery.

As the woman spoke about her desire to transform her body and wondered whether she should opt for a gastric band or something similar, Alison listened carefully.

Then the former Big Brother star, who was also joined by Vanessa Feltz for the segment, gave her thoughts.

The 46 year old, who had a band fitted in 2014 before having it removed after experiencing complications, confessed: “Here's the thing. Both myself and Vanessa have had gastric surgery in the past.”

“Let me tell you this, it’s not an easy road. A lot of people see it as an easy thing to do. It’s not necessarily easy.”

Alison added: “And, as you can see, I still haven’t lost all my weight at all. It’s not easy, darling.”

She then went on to encourage the female caller to embrace her body and feel confident in her own skin.

Alison said: “You’ve just got to do what’s right for you. Don’t put too much pressure on yourself.”

“Sometimes when you take up a little bit extra space, it’s only a little bit of extra space in the world, it don’t matter.”

She continued with a smile: “Just live your best life in that beautiful body, babes.”

Later in the segment, mum of one Alison further shed light on the different things she’d done to lose weight over the years.

These include taking part in ITV show Sugar Free Farm, where she and other famous faces cut sugar out of their diet completely to see the ways in which it affected their bodies.

Alison recalled: “By day seven, I didn’t want sugar anymore but when I did want a bit of sugar, I had a tangerine. It really did it for me.”

She continued: “On day seven, or day eight, at that point you don’t want it anymore.”

She then explained it was almost impossible to follow once she went back to her daily routine, saying: “In the real world, I’ll be honest with you, I can’t cut out sugar.”

Alison concluded by saying: “It’s impossible. I just can’t do it.”
