Jennie Bond has exposed the depth of the rift between Prince Harry and Prince William ahead of Prince Philip’s funeral. The former BBC’s royal correspondent told ITV that “this is a really deep rift” as she reflected on the pair’s relationship. This comes after news that the Dukes of Cambridge and Sussex will walk apart for their grandfather’s funeral, under orders from the Queen.

Speaking to ITV’s Good Morning Britain today, Ms Bond said the fact that Prince Harry and William are “not walking together” at Prince Philip’s funeral will make people believe there is a “really deep rift” between the pair.

The royal expert explained: “Everyone’s hopes were pinned on the fact that a funeral like this would focus their mind and bring them together and maybe it will.

“But, by not walking together, it makes everyone think well, this is going to take some time, this is a really deep rift.”

Under the plans released yesterday Buckingham Palace also revealed the Queen will sit alone during the ceremony, due to coronavirus precautions.

Prince Harry admitted during his controversial interview with Oprah Winfrey that his relationship with William was troubled.

Under the funeral plans decided by the Queen, Harry and William will be separated by their cousin Peter Phillips as they walk behind the coffin of the Duke of Edinburgh on Saturday.

Buckingham Palace insisted they would not be drawn on any “perceptions of drama” the public might draw from the order of procession.

A spokesperson said: “The arrangements have been agreed, and they represent Her Majesty’s wishes.”

Prince Harry and Andrew uniform row slammed by Bond

In another move intended to spare Prince Harry embarrassment, the Palace also confirmed that no military uniforms will be worn by royals, despite protocol.

Royals traditionally wear military uniforms at a ceremonial royal funeral such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s.

However, Harry, who was stripped of his honorary military positions on stepping down from royal duties, would be the only senior royal in civilian clothes.

Royal author Angela Levin accused Harry and Prince Andrew of “throwing tantrums” and “shameful behaviour” in the wake of the military uniform discussion.

Ms Levin tweeted: “Due to Princes Andrew and Harry throwing tantrums none of the Royal Family will be wearing military uniforms on Sat.

“You’d think the Queen and Duke’s exemplary behaviour wd have passed down.

“Hasn’t our Queen at 94, got much much more to cope with than deciding on what male family members should wear for her adored husband’s funeral?”
