This Morning star Ruth Langsford has admitted she is "really struggling" with back pain following a running injury.

The news comes just days after giving an update on her husband and co-star Eamonn Holmes’ health, after he suffered from three slipped discs in his own back.

Ruth has been focusing on a Couch to 5K programme since April, during which running sessions get longer and more intense over time to gradually build up fitness.

But earlier this month, she was forced to take a break from the programme due to "back strain".

And now she has tried to get back into it – but had to give up halfway as she was "really struggling".

Speaking to her 1million Instagram followers, Ruth posted a video of her decked out in running gear as she told the camera: "Good morning – it is Wednesday.

"I haven’t run for over a week because I picked up a bit of muscle strain on my back, and I had a bit of physio for it and wanted it to rest."

Ruth explained: "I’m going out to run two of week eight, another 26-minuter, and I feel really nervous because I haven’t run for so long!

"It’s stupid, isn’t it, because I can just stop! Or I can start again! So it’s stupid to feel nervous but I do."

Ruth continued to explain that despite the "drizzly" weather, she opted to go without a jacket because she gets hot easily while exercising.

"26 minutes! Hope I can do it! Come on, Ruth, you’ve got this," she said.

But shortly after, Ruth announced that her endeavour had been an "epic fail".

"Epic fail today. I just wasn’t feeling it. I said I was nervous, I just wasn’t feeling it. I was really struggling, couldn’t get my breathing right.

"I got to halfway and I was like, ‘Oh God, I can’t do it!’ Pushed on a bit more, I think I stopped quite soon after that, so I don’t know what I’ve done. 16 minutes, I don’t know.

"But I failed. And I just walked. I tried to walk briskly – bit disappointed, but it’s the first fail in eight weeks so I’m not going to tick this one, I might try again tomorrow or leave it a day," she explained. "It’s because I haven’t run for a while."

Ruth admitted she was "so annoyed", but said: "These things happen in life. We fail, we pick ourselves up and we try again."

Captioning her video post, Ruth told her followers:"“Have to remember that thing my Mum always taught me, ‘If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again!’ I’ll be back!"

And her fans were quick to show Ruth some support after her injury, with one writing: "Keep going darling!"

Someone else encouraged: "Remember, Ruth, in January if someone had said to you that you would be disappointed for RUNNING for SIXTEEN minutes, you would have laughed at them because you would be glad to run for one minute!! You are a star."

And a third fan penned: "All part of the journey Ruth so definitely don’t be disappointed! You got yourself out there and that’s the main thing."

Ruth isn’t the only one suffering from a back injury – she recently opened up to OK! Magazine about hubby Eamonn’s health update after suffering from chronic pain in his back from three slipped discs.

"It’s a slow process," she told the publication. "He’s just carrying on with his physio and putting the work into that. It’s very difficult when someone is in pain because it’s hard to help them."
