Brian addressed the controversy surrounding Luca in the interview, seeing Michael Owen's daughter respond: "This year there were complaints regarding some of the male contestants, including Luca."

Brian asked her: "How have you reacted to that and that type of scrutiny?"

Gemma replied: "I think viewers only see an hour a day. People are put in different situations than you would see on the outside. People act differently in them types of situations.

"I think personally it's unfair to judge someone just off that hour. I think there's a lot more to it."

She added: "I think certain actions might have been changed but everyone makes mistakes.

"You get put in situations in there that no one truly understands unless you're in there living it. You've got to give people the benefit of the doubt."

In her time in the infamous villa Gemma coupled up with fishmonger Luca Bish in the first couple of weeks and the couple came in second place just losing the top spot to Davide and Ekin-Su.

Luca raised concerns from fans with him being accused of bullying contestant Tasha Ghouri.

Some viewers also accused him of being controlling with Gemma.

Brian also asked Gemma if her and Luca are "officially boyfriend and girlfriend yet"

To which she said: "You're going to be disappointed with the answer, but no!"

She added that he'd met her family and gone down well with them saying: "We had a little trip. Family thumbs up, very good.

"Now we've got the approval, the ball's in his court. Just waiting for him."

Luca and Gemma's romance seems to be on the right track as the pair headed for Portugal with the rest of her family.

Teasing their first trip outside of the villa, Gemma told her followers that she was looking forward to spending time "catching up with family and friends" after her summer-long stint on the show.

Gemma posted several snaps of the pair enjoying their holiday and the trip must have been a success for Luca, who appears to have received the seal of approval from Michael Owen – in the form of an Instagram follow.
