So as fans continue to remember and mourn Matthew, Daily Star has taken a look into his love life.
Jennifer Aniston
Matthew previously admitted to having a crush on his Friends co-star, Jennifer Aniston. The actors first met in the early 90s with Matthew later confessing that he was "smitten" the very first time he saw her.
In his recent autobiography, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, the star wrote: "I was immediately taken by her (how could I not be?) and liked her, and I got the sense she was intrigued too. Maybe it was going to be something.
However, Matthew revealed that his feelings weren't reciprocated when they both landed their roles in Friends in 1994. Nevertheless, Matthew still plucked up the courage to ask her on a date, which she declined.
Matthew admitted that his feelings continued to grow when filming the hit sitcom. However, when Jennifer started dating Brad Pitt in 1998, the feelings he once had were gone and he became distracted by the show's success.
Julia Roberts
In his candid autobiography, the actor revealed that he had a three-month relationship with Hollywood icon Julia Roberts. Matthew shared details of the fiery fling and said it began after Julia was asked to appear as guest character Susie Moss during an episode of Friends in 1995.
The star pushed out all the stops and sent Julia "three dozen red roses" when she said she'll appear on the sitcom if she played a role alongside his character Chandler. Matthew also revealed that after a five hour phone call, the Pretty Woman actress turned up at his door and a relationship began.
But sadly it wasn't meant to be for the famous duo. Matthew decided to call things off a few months later as he feared "she was going to break up with [him]".
Yasmine Bleeth
Fans of hit sitcom Friends will surely remember Chandler's love of the show Baywatch. But in real life, reports claimed he dated Yasmine Bleeth who starred in the lifeguard-based programme. According to Page Six, Matthew and Yasmine were together following his romance with Julia in 1996.
Their short-lived relationship took place in 1996, But Matthew's character continued to make several references to Yasmine in future seasons of the beloved NBC series.
Two years after the alleged Yasmine romance, Matthew was linked to his Three to Tango co-star Neve Campbell. Meanwhile, his first serious relationship is said to have been with Bold and Beautiful soap star Maeve Quinlan.
Rachel Dunn

The comedic actor made several public appearances with the former fashion student. He later told the Evening Standard that she had changed him for the better.
He said: "With Rachel in my life, I know that I can be very committed and not some selfish guy who just wants to hang out with friends. I want to spend time with my girlfriend and explore what it means to have a much closer relationship than I've previously had time for."
Lizzie Caplan
Matthew dated Mean Girls star Lizzie Caplan for six years. From 2006, the pair kept their relationship under wraps and away from the prying eyes of the public.
But things became rocky in 2013 when the Independent claimed Caplan would "not even entertain any questions relating to her partner" during an interview. She even went as far as covering her ears when his name was mentioned.
She told the publication: "I can stand right next to paparazzi and I do that sometimes. I’m close with people who are far more famous, and they know how to avoid attention." Reports later revealed that the couple had split a year prior.
Molly Hurwitz
In 2018, Matthew met literary manager Molly Hurwitz. Two years later the TV star asked for Molly's hand in marriage.
