Foo Fighters to Skip 2022 Grammys Following Taylor Hawkins’ Death
Meanwhile, it’s has been revealed that the producers are currently working on the best way to honor the late drummer at the upcoming award-giving event, which is set to be held on April 3.
AceShowbiz –Foo Fighters will not perform at the upcoming 2022 Grammys. The decision is made in the wake of the death of the group’s drummer Taylor Hawkins on March 25 at the age of 50.
A rep for Foo Fighters reportedly confirmed the cancellation to Billboard. Alongside Billie Eilish, Lil Nas X, BTS (Bangtan Boys) and Olivia Rodrigo, the band was initially announced as one of Grammy performers just days before Hawkins’ death.
Prior to the cancellation report, Jack Sussman, the CBS executive vice president of specials, music and live events, was asked if Foo Fighter would appear at the event, which is set to take place at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas on April 3. “I hope so. I don’t know. I think we need to give them a little time to deal with the tragedy that has impacted their family and listen to them and come up with something to honor Taylor’s memory that is appropriate and that they feel good about,” Sussman said on Monday, March 29.
Later on Wednesday, Sussman revealed that producers are still working on how the biggest night in music will honor Hawkins. “We will honor his memory in some way,” Sussman divulged, according to Variety. “We want to figure out what is the right thing to do that is respectful to everyone involved. We’re patient. We’ll be planning right up until the very end.”
In addition to scrapping its performance at the Grammys, Foo Fighters canceled their upcoming tour performances as they’re still mourning the loss of their dear friend. “It is with great sadness that Foo Fighters confirm the cancellation of all upcoming tour dates in light of the staggering loss of our brother Taylor Hawkins,” the band wrote in the statement on Tuesday. “We’re sorry for and share in the disappointment that we won’t be seeing one another as planned. Instead, let’s take this time to grieve, to heal, to pull our loved ones close, and to appreciate all the music and memories we’ve made together. With Love, Foo Fighters.”
Foo Fighters confirmed Hawkins’ devastating death in a statement which read, “The Foo Fighters family is devastated by the tragic and untimely loss of our beloved Taylor Hawkins.” The band went on to note, “His musical spirit and infectious laughter will live on with all of us forever. Our hearts go out to his wife, children and family, and we ask that their privacy be treated with the utmost respect in this unimaginably difficult time.”
An official cause of death has not been revealed as the investigation is currently underway, but Colombia’s General of the Nation in Fiscalia shared a preliminary toxicology report. It revealed that Taylor had 10 drugs in his system, including opioids, marijuana and antidepressants.
