Céline Dion Supports Britney Spears As She Enters Wellness Facility: 'Sending Her All My Courage'
Céline Dion is supporting a fellow pop star.
Following the news that Britney Spears checked into an “all-encompassing wellness facility” amid her father’s health battle, the “Slumber Party” singer received kind words from Dion, 51.
“Right now she needs courage, so I’m sending her all my courage, and my inner strength, and my stability, and the love and respect I do have for other artists,” Dion told Entertainment Tonight.
Spears’s dad Jamie underwent a second surgery in March in hopes of fully repairing a life-threatening colon rupture that the Grammy winner opened up about in early January. Dion’s late husband René Angélil in 2016 battled with throat cancer until his death in January 2016 at age 73.
“It’s hard sometimes… but, you know, when you go [through] something hard, especially [with] a family member, you find strength within yourself you did not know you had,” Dion added in her chat with ET. “I do not know her so personally, but, after a while, when you go through something tough, you come back stronger.”
Spears, 37, also received encouragement from her boyfriend, model-trainer-actor Sam Asghari.
“It isn’t weakness, It’s a sign of absolute strength,” the 25-year-old wrote on Instagram on Wednesday night. “People should only be inspired by this, at least I am … #stronger”
On Wednesday, a source close to the Spears family told PEOPLE, “Britney just needed to focus on herself” as she cares for her father.
“Her dad being sick has taken a toll on her. He nearly died and actually had another surgery a few weeks ago. He’s not doing well. They’re so close and it has been a lot,” the family source added. “There is nothing dramatic going on with her — she just realized she needs to make sure to take time to care for herself.”
The mother of two announced in January that she would be stepping away from her Domination show to concentrate on her family.
“I am dedicating my focus and energy to care for my family,” Spears — whose new Las Vegas residency was set to launch at the Park Theater at Park MGM in February — said in a statement obtained by PEOPLE. “We have a very special relationship and I want to be with my family at this time just like they have always been there for me.”
