AMAs 2018: BTS and Cardi B Among Early Winners
Before the 2018 American Music Awards started, BTS (Bangtan Boys) was announced as the winner of Favorite Social Artist during the red carpet portion of the show. Taylor Swift then officially kicked off the event hosted by Tracee Ellis Ross at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles with a performance of her “Reputation” track “I Did Something Bad”.
Afterward, Bebe Rexha and Florida Georgia Line took the stage to present Favorite Artist – Rap/Hop-Hop to Cardi B, whose songs have dominated music charts all around the world. Earning a loud cheer from the audience when she accepted the award, she admitted that she was nervous before thanking her team, friends and fans.
She also paid special tribute to her daughter, Kulture, saying, “And I really wanna thank my daughter. And not just because she’s my daughter, but when I was pregnant I was just so influenced to be like, ‘Yo, I gotta do this. I gotta show people wrong. I gotta prove people wrong.’ ” The “Bartier Cardi” raptress then mocked her haters by jokingly singing, “They say I’m not gonna make it, after I had a baby.”
After the first commercial break, Tracee took the stage in a super fancy golden disco ball and danced along with a slew of backup dancers. Amber Heard then came up to the stage to introduce the next performer, Twenty One Pilots, who just released their album “Trench”. The rock duo belted out “Jumpsuit”.
Post Malone, who lost to Cardi for the previous award, fortunately didn’t go home empty handed. He looked really excited when accepting the Favorite Male Artist Pop/Rock Award from Macaulay Culkin. Taylor later was back onstage to accept Tour of the Year, thanking her tour buddies Charli XCX and Camila Cabello.
More winners will be announced as the show unfolds.
