Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese to Bring ‘Unsettling American Story’ to the Screen
Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese are teaming up once again for “Killers of the Flower Moon“. The Academy Award-winning actor and the awards-winning filmmaker are going to bring an adaptation of David Grann’s New York Times best-selling non-fiction book of the same title to big screen.
Scorsese is set to direct DiCaprio, who is attached to star in the crime drama. Scorsese will also produce alongside Imperative Entertainment’s Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Sikelia Productions’ Emma Tillinger Koskoff and DiCaprio’s Appian Way Productions.
Eric Roth is penning the script. Set in 1920s Oklahoma, the story revolves around the Osage Nation, who became the richest people per capita in the world, after they discovered oil under their land and were then murdered one by one. As the death toll rose, the newly created FBI took up the case and unraveled a chilling conspiracy and one of the most monstrous crimes in American history.
Scorsese says in a statement, “When I read David Grann’s book, I immediately started seeing it – the people, the settings, the action – and I knew that I had to make it into a movie. I’m so excited to be working with Eric Roth and reuniting with Leo DiCaprio to bring this truly unsettling American story to the screen.”
“Killers of the Flower Moon” is expected to be DiCaprio and Scorsese’s next project. The two have teamed up on “Gangs of New York” (2002), “The Aviator” (2004), “The Departed” (2006), “Shutter Island” (2010) and most recently “The Wolf of Wall Street” (2013).
DiCaprio is currently filming Quentin Tarantino‘s star-studded film “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” which uses the Manson Family murders as the backstory. He is joined by Brad Pitt, Margot Robbie, Damian Lewis, Lena Dunham, Dakota Fanning, Al Pacino and many others in the cast.
Meanwhile, Scorsese has wrapped up the filming on mob drama “The Irishman“, which is now in post-production. Starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Ray Romano and more, it is set to be released on Netflix.
