Jared Leto's Morbius details reveal it will be the next Spider-Man spin-off
Jared Leto’s vampire Morbius is set to be Sony’s next Spider-Man spin-off following the (box office) success of Venom.
Producers Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach have confirmed that Morbius, the Living Vampire will be the next project in the Sony Spidey universe, with Silver & Black and Silk also in the works.
“This is the great thing for us now, that an actor like him, and an actor like Tom [Hardy] wanted to have their own character,” Arad told Collider.
“But the character they love. Both of them, very hard to get them to do a movie. You actually cannot get them. We went in, we sat with them, and everybody told us, ‘Oh, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba.’ Nothing. That’s what he wanted to do.”
They confirmed that they are aiming for a “February” start date, though admitted they were still “working on it”.
As for the most recent script draft, Tolmach confirmed: “[Burk] Sharpless and [Matt] Sazama are the guys who wrote the script. They wrote the script.”
In the comics, Morbius started off as a villain who clashed with Spider-Man, though later became more of an anti-hero.
Meanwhile, Venom has been raking it up at the box office since its release last week, despite being panned by critics across the board.
Let’s hope Morbius has a little more bite when it comes to critical acclaim.
