Emma Watson Goes Pretty Vintage in First Look at ‘Little Women’ Remake

Emma Watson has been spotted for the first time on the set of “Little Women (2019)“. The British actress was pictured filming the adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel in the Back Bay, Boston on Sunday, October 7.

In some pictures obtained by Daily Mail, the 28-year-old star oozed classic beauty in a period costume which consisted of a full blue skirt and a tweet jacket with a blue ribbon tied around the waist. Her long brunette locks were tied in a simple ponytail while she carried a large carpet bag. She was seen stepping out of a horse carriage and staring at the front door of a building where the horse carriage drops her by.

Watson plays Meg March, the eldest sister, in the new take of the 1868 novel of the same title. She takes the role which was previously intended for Emma Stone.

Meryl Streep portrays Aunt March, with Saoirse Ronan starring as Jo, Florence Pugh as Amy, Eliza Scanlen as Beth, and Laura Dern as Marmee. Timothee Chalamet is cast as Theodore “Laurie” Laurence, while Louis Garrel is playing Friedrich Bhaer. Bob Odenkirk, Chris Cooper and Abby Quinn round out the cast.

The story revolves around four female siblings Meg, Beth, Jo and Amy March during American Civil War. With their father away fighting in the war, the girls struggle with major and minor problems under the guidance of their strong-willed mother, affectionately called Marmee.

Academy Award nominee Greta Gerwig is directing with the script that she wrote herself. Amy Pascal is serving as producer along with Denise Di Novi and Robin Swicord. It is scheduled for a December 25, 2019 release in the United States.

The previous feature-film adaptation of “Little Woman” was released in 1994 starring Winona Ryder, Christian Bale, Kirsten Dunst, Susan Sarandon and Claire Danes. There’s also a miniseries based on the novel aired on BBC last year.
