Tess Daly, 51, has revealed she struggled with “solo parenting” while her other half Vernon Kay, 46, was away in Wales for I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! 2020. The star shares two daughters, Phoebe, 16, and 11-year-old Amber, with the former Family Fortunes host.
The Strictly Come Dancing host gave an insight into her relationship with her husband and admitted that their period of time apart towards the end of last year reminded her that she “really does need” him around.
Tess also branded Vernon her “soulmate” while admitting their 18 years of marriage has “been a ride”.
When quizzed on challenges she faced while Vernon was competing in the ITV reality show, Tess revealed that several appliances in the house broke.
She divulged: “The printer, the dishwasher, the dryer [all broke] – basically everything you need when solo parenting.

“I was like, ‘Okay, Vern, I really do need you around the house’…we’re soulmates, me and Vernon.
“It’s been a ride. And I love him more than ever.”
Tess also revealed she doesn’t feel any different at the age of 50, while opening up on her self confidence.
The star told the April issue of Women’s Health UK: “Confidence comes from cutting yourself some slack. I’m in my fifties now.
“That’s still a shock when I say it out loud, because I don’t feel any different to when I was in my thirties.
“But I don’t fixate on age as a limitation, because it’s never held me back…confidence, to me, is just pushing yourself a little bit further than you think you can go, and you’ll always surprise yourself.”
Elsewhere, Tess recently discussed Vernon’s stint on I’m A Celebrity on Gabby Logan’s podcast, The Mid Point.
Gabby quizzed the mum-of-two on her time apart from Vernon, adding: “Did that five week period make you think a lot more than you were expecting about where you both are as a family, as a couple, looking at the future?”

However, Tess explained she had other realisations while watching Vernon interacting with his campmates on the show.
She replied: “Not necessarily in that way.
“I really enjoyed watching him because he’s got all these lovely characteristics that you sometimes take for granted when you’re living with him.
“Like the big Vernon bear hugs he gives, because he’s a big man, so when you get one of those hugs, you know about it, and they’re brilliant!
“And just to see him handing out those hugs and being very compassionate and very gentle and calm because he’s the calm one at our house and I’m the one that vibrates at a much higher frequency and runs around,” Tess laughed.
She added: “So he’s the calm one and it was lovely to see those qualities reaffirmed.
“And just enjoying him sharing that compassionate side that he has with everybody.”
Vernon finished in third place on I’m A Celebrity, while Giovanna Fletcher became the Queen of the Castle, with Jordan North finishing as the runner-up.
