Steph McGovern is rooting for Packed Lunch co-star John Whaite to win Strictly

He's been tearing up the dance floor with Johannes Radebe, and John Whaite has the full backing of his Packed Lunch costars as the Strictly final edges nearer.

OK! caught up with John's colleague, Steph McGovern this week and the star couldn't help but share her support for John, 32.

The 39 year old presenter, who was spotted cheereing John on in the Strictly studio audience last weekend, told us: "John is incredibly funny, but also so kind and caring. He’s not afraid to talk about whatever he’s dealing with in his life, which is brilliant."

Steph – who shares a two year old daughter with her partner – continued to add that she believes John is a great role model.

"For those of us in the LGBT community, he’s a great role model," Steph added. "I always want to know the Strictly gossip when he’s in, but we take our mics off before we have a little chat so no one can hear."

However, Steph admitted she was "torn" on who to support as she's also worked with Dan Walker on BBC Breakfast, while she counts other Strictly 2021 stars as good friends.

She added: "When the line-up was announced I was really torn, because Rhys Stephenson has been on my show, AJ [Odudu] I’ve worked with, Sara Davies is a good friend."

She went on to say that she has been "voting across the board to keep it fair," before admitting: "Ultimately, I’d love John to be the one because he’s like a little brother to me."

And as much as she's enjoyed watching her costar on the show, Steph says it's never been the right time for her to do Strictly herself.

She explained: "It's never been right at that time, because of family stuff.

"I think it’s an amazing show and it would be a total honour."

And Steph has even done a little bit of dancing before too.

She explained: "I have done a bit of Irish dancing in the past, so I’ve learned how to move the bottom of my body, but never the top!"
