Sheridan Smith sparks engagement rumours as she shows off ring alongside beau Alex Lawler

Sheridan Smith has sparked engagement rumours after posting a loved-up snap with her beau Alex Lawler.

The Cilla actress, who confirmed last month that she is dating actor Alex after splitting from her ex fiancé Jamie Horn following three years together, shared a sweet snap of the pair to her 679,000 Instagram followers on Sunday 10 October.

Mum-of-one Sheridan, who shares one year old son Billy with ex Jamie, looked over-the-moon as she flashed a dazzling diamond ring on her wedding finger while posing next to her man, captioned: "Life begins at 40. 40\40."

Sheridan, who turned 40 in June, pouted for the selfie with her blonde locks in a chic up-do and a dash of black eyeliner while her beau left his dark locks loose over his shoulders.

The blonde beauty garnered over 9,000 likes on the post with her celebrity friends congratulating the couple on appearing to take their relationship to the next level.

Claire Sweeney commented: "Go on."

Talia Dean added: "OMG. yessss xxx."

"Engagement???", another added.

A fan penned: "Life is to short not to be happy. Do what makes you happy and makes you smile."

OK! has contacted a representative of Sheridan for comment.

According to IMDb, Alex, 40, is best known for his role in Mike Bassett England Manager.

He also played a bus driver in EastEnders in 2005 and starred in the TV series Dream Team.

Alex's other credits include Blue Murder, Lost In Austen, Rollin' with the Nines and Bigga Than Ben.

The actor has Instagram but his account is private and it doesn't appear that the actor uses social media often.

The Royle Family actress first hinted at her relationship with her new beau after sharing a photo of her new man last month.

The couple could be seen smiling for a selfie in the sweet picture.

Sheridan's happy news comes two months after her she announced her split from her fiancé Jamie Horn, whom she shares son Billy with.

The couple announced the news in a joint statement in July, which read: "It is with great sadness that we have decided to have some time apart.

"We both remain completely committed to raising our beautiful boy Billy together. We ask that you respect our privacy during this difficult time. Thank you."
