Richard E Grant took to Twitter today to share a picture with his wife Joan Washington, who died in September of last year. The loved-up snap received over 12,600 likes and 187 comments from the actor’s 284,600 followers.

Richard, 64, revealed late last year that his wife Joan had died at the age of 74 following a long battle with cancer.

The With Nail and I star shared via social media that his partner had died on September 3, eight months after receiving her stage-four lung cancer diagnosis.

Today, the actor posted a sweet picture of the pair smiling with their heads resting against one another, framed by a red love heart.

He captioned the Valentine’s Day snap with a string of red love heart emojis.

The comment section was subsequently flooded with supportive messages from Richard’s followers, who were moved by the tear-jerking post.

“Sending you lots of love,” wrote Loki director Kate Herron with a heart emoji, “And gorgeous photo.”

Author Giles Paley-Phillips commented: “Sending so much love today, Richard.”

Waterloo Road actress Eva Pope wrote: “Love lives on, and on, and on. There is nothing real but love.

Last year, Richard announced the sad passing of his wife Joan in an emotional Twitter post.

Along with his statement, the actor shared a sweet video of the pair dancing to the song Only You.

He wrote: “ONLY YOU! Joan – Love of my Life & Giver of Life to our daughter Olivia.

“Our hearts are broken with the loss of your Life last night.

“35 years married & 38 together.

“To be truly known and seen by you is your immeasurable gift.

“Do not forget us, sweet Monkee-mine.”
