Piers Morgan takes brutal swipe at Australia as Lionesses reach World Cup final
Women’s World Cup: England’s path to World Cup glory
Talk TV’s Piers Morgan has taken a cheeky swipe at the US Embassy in Australia after they threw their support behind the Matildas in today’s Women’s World Cup Semi-Final against the Lionesses.
The Embassy posted an image of the team in a boat waving flags saying “Go Matildas”, which Piers pithily reposted in light of England’s victory captioning it: “UPDATE: Boat sunk.”
Piers attended the game which took place in Stadium Australia this afternoon and saw the Lionesses storm to a 3-1 victory securing them a place in the final.
The match will take place this Sunday at 11am UK time, with the match to be broadcast live on both the BBC and ITV.
At one point the outspoken broadcaster was spotted yawning as the game took place while he sat in front of a flag supporting the host country.

The scathing post didn’t appear to go over well with his 8.5 million followers on X, formerly known as Twitter.
@Gatty54 commented: “I’ll show a bit more class than you and say congratulations to England. By far the better team and deserved to win.”
A user called @odonoghue_dm write: “Show some class. Two teams left it all out there. the better team on the day won. Well done @Lionesses, super proud of you @TheMatildas! the final will be a belter.”
Meanwhile, @brayden_shezza couldn’t resist having a dig at Piers about England’s performance in the Ashes.
“Wow look at that piers a England team that knows how to win a match in Australia maybe they can pass on some tips to the England cricket team for next time they go to Australia!” they said. (sic)

The Lionesses are now only 90 minutes from making history as they take on Spain in the final.
Last summer they became the first English team to win a major tournament since 1966 when they won the Euros at Wembley but this is the first time they have ever reached the finals of the World Cup and they will be hoping to build on that previous success.
The team have enjoyed a remarkable change of fortunes since manager Sarina Wiegman replaced Phil Neville in September 2021.
Interviewed by BBC after the game Lioness Alessia Russo was confident of their chances of winning the tournament.
“Yes, why not,” she said. “Spain are going to be even tougher [than Australia]. Every game in this tournament has been of the highest level, so we have to be ready.
“But we’ve been dreaming since we were little girls. We’re excited. We’ll recover and be ready.”
