Nile Rodgers pays tribute to his mother as he confirms her death
Nile Rodgers has confirmed his mother, Beverly Goodman, has died.
The 68-year-old Chic star shared his heartbreaking loss in a statement posted on Instagram, where he also posted a picture of himself next to her in hospital where she took her final breaths.
‘My mom #BeverlyGoodman#RIP passed away around 6am today,’ Nile penned in the caption.
‘I breathed some of my 1st breaths with her and she breathed some of her last with me.
‘My brothers and I will contact everyone soon. Today I’m numb.’
Nile’s mum had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s 14 years ago.
In 2019, he told PA: ‘She was diagnosed 13 years ago unbeknownst to me, because we live in different cities, and because my mom, when she hears my voice, becomes so intellectually clear it’s mind-boggling.
‘She didn’t tell me and she was also suffering from one of the common symptoms which is denial, she wouldn’t believe it.
‘Even now, we have conversations and she says, “At least I don’t have Alzheimer’s.”‘
Earlier this week, Nile said the saddest part of the coronavirus pandemic was not being able to visit his mother during the Christmas holiday.
‘She’s always happy and entertaining even w late stage #Alzheimer’s,’ he wrote on Twitter. ‘I’ve learned to redirect or not, so she’s never uncomfortable with her memory loss.’ (sic)
Beverly gave birth to Nile when she was 13. In 1959, she married Bobby Glanzrock.
