Made in Chelsea star Ollie Locke has shared his upset as he revealed his dream wedding venue “doesn’t do gay marriages”.

The 33 year old reality star, who got engaged to Gareth in September 2018, shared the shocking news as he and Gareth opened up on their wedding plans with Sophie Hermann.

As they chatted in a flower shop on Monday night's episode, Sophie quizzed the couple on if they had found a location for their nuptials, which are set to be on a smaller scale due to the pandemic.

Ollie’s husband-to-be Gareth, who shares the same surname as his hubby-to-be, replied: “So we had this idea of getting married in this beautiful church and we found this beautiful church and like going through the process, imagining the wedding there, how we’re gonna do it.

“And then we found out that basically we can’t actually get married there.”

Ollie continued: “They don’t do gay marriages. Obviously, I must admit, that was the most upset I’ve been for a long time because I thought we had…

“We’ve obviously fought for so many years for all of this and we’re so delighted that it’s now a legal situation that we are allowed to get married and we wanted to celebrate that.

“And, for someone to turn around and say, ‘You can’t I’m afraid. We’ll give you a blessing.’”

Sophie added she felt the venue’s refusal to marry the couple was “insane” while Ollie also revealed they are restricted when it comes to their honeymoon choices, too.

He added: “Also, we were talking about honeymoons and there’s somewhere that everyone goes on their honeymoons that we can’t go.”

As Sophie asked why, Gareth explained: “We can’t go there out of principle because they, well…”

Ollie added: “They don’t agree with gay marriage. It’s one of those things that until you’re doing something like this you don’t really realise how unequal things are still.”

As Ollie and Gareth’s upsetting revelation aired on television, Ollie shared the clip on his Twitter and added: “I just retweeted the chelsea video, it’s absolutely true that our favourite venue said no to gay marriage! That was the hardest situation!!”

Fans then shared their outrage on the social media channel.

One wrote: “whattt this is so so wrong we are all one why are people in this day and age not recognising this. I am truly sorry for you both xx”.

Another reassured: “Poor Ollie & Gareth – wherever you decide to do it, it will be special and memorable and all about you two and no one else”.

While a third urged: “You really need to name & shame the venue”.

And a fourth raged: “it’s 2020 FFS Just give it time, Ollie it’ll all go just as you planned right from the very start. Trust”.

In May this year, the couple opened up about their wedding plans in an exclusive interview with OK! magazine.

When asked if he was concerned the pandemic would halt their plans to tie the knot, Ollie said: “My best friend in the world had to cancel his wedding in June. We’re not too worried. Ours will be a winter wedding so hopefully things will be okay by then.”

But, the couple later revealed in October they were forced to change plans from a big bash to a small wedding.

He said on MIC: “However much I want this enormous wedding and I want everyone to be there, I want more to be with him.

“I think we’re doing a small wedding this year!”
