Kate Garraway took to Instagram as she marked the start of 2022 with her youngest child. The pair were heard marvelling at fireworks in the clip, but the presenter’s son Billy voiced his concerns for his father.

Dad’s probably getting scared

Kate shares two children with husband of 17 years, Derek Draper: William, 12, and 15-year-old Darcey.

The Good Morning Britain host’s spouse is currently fighting the effects of Covid, after first contracting the virus in March 2020.

The former lobbyist, 54, is home with his family, but needs round the clock care.

The broadcaster’s little boy grew worried for his dad when New Year’s fireworks went off in their neighbours’ garden.

He was heard telling his famous mum “dad’s probably getting scared” as the impressive display sounded.

Kate caught their touching exchange on video, and shared it with her 1.1 million followers.

“Billy! Woah,” she was heard shouting initially, seemingly drawing his attention to what could be seen out the window.

“I’ll tell you when it’s exactly midnight,” Billy responded, before adding excitedly: “It’s midnight!”

“It’s midnight now!” Kate responded. “Happy new year! Woo! Wow! This is unbelievable,” remarking on the fireworks.

It was then Billy was heard worrying if his dad would be frightened by the bangs.

“Dad’s probably getting scared,” he stated.

Kate told him: “I know. Go check on him.

“Don’t worry. You did warn him fireworks were going to happen.”

The documentary-maker went on to brand the display “insane” as she commended those living near her.

“I have to say, the rest of north London has done brilliantly,” Kate added.

She captioned her latest update: “So north London did us proud again this year – but top marks go to Lisa & Simon our neighbours!

“#happynewyear everyone – let’s make it a good one!

“Here’s to health and joy to you in 2022.”

The new year has got off to a big start for Kate, who has been made an MBE in the New Year Honours after documenting Derek’s battle with coronavirus.

She has been recognised for her services to broadcasting, journalism and charity.
