Jesy Nelson has confessed she was "unhappy" for 10 years of her life because of the girlband Little Mix.

The 30 year old quit the group in December last year and has since been working on launching her solo music career, including her collaboration song with Nicki Minaj, Boyz.

Speaking in the latest episode of Reign With Josh Smith, Jesy explained that while there were moments where she "really loved" being in the band with Leigh-Anne Pinnock, 29, Jade Thirlwall, 28, and Perrie Edwards, also 28, there were "way more times" that she felt unhappy.

“I don’t think people realise how hard it is to be in a girl band," she said. "There’s a lot that comes with it that people don’t know about. And obviously I don’t get to make my own decisions.

"Three people have to agree as well, so there would always be disagreements on certain things.”

Jesy, who recently opened up on her "unhealthy" love life as she admitted she falls for "bad boys", went on to discuss how the public views her since she left the band.

She said: “I feel a lot of people think that it’s selfish I’ve left the group. I really didn’t want to upset people and I didn’t want people to think that about me, but I don’t care any more."

Explaining that she had to step away for her own wellbeing, the star continued: “It was 10 years of my life that I was very unhappy with and I needed to take myself out of that and genuinely do what’s going to make me happy.

“Some people may not understand that, but you live once and you have to do what makes you happy."

Taking a swipe at the band, she added: “Being in Little Mix is literally like a machine. You don’t have any time off. You can’t switch off. Even when you go home, your phone is constantly going off about work and your life is planned out.”

While she may have left her role within the group, she insisted they all remain firm friends as she called Leigh-Anne, Perrie and Jade her "sisters".

“I had honestly the most incredible memories with Little Mix," she said, adding: “We laughed so much, they are, they’re like my sisters… They are the best girl band in the world.”
