Susanna Reid, 50, reacted as former colleague, Shelagh Fogerty, 55, shared news that she had lost her mother. Many, including the Good Morning Britain host, resonated with the LBC presenter, due to her mum being a regular talking point on her radio show.
It always struck me that you had such a special relationship.
The GMB presenter was quick to comment on Shelagh’s loss.
She said: “I am so sorry Shelagh.
“It always struck me that you had such a special relationship.”
Shelagh presents the afternoon weekday show on LBC and has done since 2014.
Similarly, Susanna has presented on GMB since 2014, formerly alongside Piers Morgan.
The ex BBC Breakfast broadcaster now presents the show with Ben Shephard.
Shelagh posted on Twitter on Thursday, telling her fans why she was taking a break from LBC.
She said: “My beautiful mother, Mary Fogarty, has died.
“At home and now at peace.
“She faced recent tough years the way she faced everything – from raising seven children to handling old age – with strength and grace.
“I am lucky to be hers and will try to live up to that good fortune.”
Famous faces as well as fans were quick to comment their support to the journalist.
Fellow LBC presenter Rachel Johnson said: “I walked into the newsroom @lbc at 5pm and everyone was quiet – and then someone took me aside and told me your mother had died.
“There was a real sense of mourning.
“I’m sorry – she had become a part of the lives, too, of the millions who listen to your show.
Countdown’s Susie Dent said: “I know there are no words.
“I’m so sorry Shelagh.”
Shelagh regularly spoke about her mother on her radio show, and many listeners felt like they knew her.
One fan said: “This is so sad, I love your broadcasts and one thing shines through, what a wonderful mum you had and what a marvellous daughter you are #RIP.”
