Holly Willoughby ‘barely speaking to Phil’ amid This Morning ‘shake up’
Holly Willoughby is "barely speaking" to her daytime TV co-host Phillip Schofield off-camera and the pair have "become more distant," according to reports.
The ITV double-act – who have presented This Morning together since 2009 – became "great friends" after first having met as hosts of Dancing On Ice on the same channel.
Phillip, 61 – who last week spoke out about the show's "reshuffling" rumours – later described his 42-year-old on-screen counterpart as "his rock" after he came out as gay live on television back in 2020.
But a source has now claimed that the duo's relationship has become strained in recent months.
The Sun claim that an insider informed them: "Holly adores This Morning and for the first time in 14 years she has made it clear that should Phil ever leave she would want to stay. They are separate entities. It has become an open secret that things aren't as rosy as they once were."
The source allegedly added: "To those around them on set, it has become clear recently that Holly and Phil are not as close as they once were. Professionally you would have no idea there was anything going on because on camera they are acting exactly the same, but behind the scenes their relationship has cooled."
Another source also reportedly told the publication that the pair's banter and 'camaraderie' off-camera was not the same as it used to be, and had 'dwindled' in the last 12 months.
"It has become an open secret that things aren't as rosy as they once were. Holly however has made her position clear and that is that she wants to remain at the heart of This Morning."
Rumours of a distance having been created between the duo came after they initially came under fire from the public back in September last year when they were accused of skipping the queue to see the Queen lying-in-state.
Phillip also took a three week break from the show in March as his brother Tim was convicted of child sex offences.
In his absence, co-host Holly – who was applauded last week for showing off her homemade Coronation cake – was paired with Alison Hammond – who also regularly hosts the much loved 10am show alongside her on-screen other-half Dermot O'Leary.
ITV bosses were later said to be overjoyed by the chemistry between Holly and Alison, and are now reportedly looking for further opportunities to pair them up again.
A month later, Holly was forced to miss a week on the show after contracting shingles, but This Morning fans took to Twitter to question if Holly would ever return, with many admitting they couldn't imagine the pair co-hosting for much longer.
"Call me cynical bit I think we have seen the last of the Phil and Holly duo. #thismorning", one viewer tweeted, whilst another wrote, "Something is not right there, bet she's just trying to stay away from Smugfield and gaining her brownie points with #ThisMorning viewers?"
A third commented: "I don’t think it’ll be ‘Phil and Holly’ on This Morning much longer'; 'Oh look, Phil’s back, no Holly though."
OK! contacted Holly and Phillip's representation for comment.
