Strictly Come Dancing 2020 dancing duo Giovanni Pernice, 30, and Ranvir Singh, 43, were closer than ever when they performed their up-close routine last weekend, prompting many to speculate a romance could be happening between the pair. Ranvir and Giovanni, who are both believed to be single, have laughed off the rumours, insisting they were simply in character.

Now, Giovanni’s former co-stars Joanne and Kevin Clifton have shared their thoughts about the intimate number.

Kevin divulged: “I really liked it, I thought it was a really good dance and closing the show with the first Argentine Tango of the series…

“Argentine Tango can be so hit and miss, it either comes across [as] absolutely brilliant or just really awkward.

“She’s good at understanding the feel and vibe of every dance that she’s doing, she understands the different characters.

“It was intense and I felt it and that’s what I like from a dance.”

The siblings’ fellow podcast guest Lauren Oakley went on to point out there had been rumours the pair could be more than friends behind-the-scenes.

“I’m sure there are,” Kevin laughed.

Joanne added on The Kevin Clifton show podcast: “Giovanni does that [gets up close] with most of his partners, like he’s just in character.

“I don’t think there’s anything going on with them, they’re just in character and you get really close in an Argentine Tango.

“In Ballroom and Latin dancing, you kind of have to,” Lauren added.

Kevin went on to add viewers often assume things are going on between a dancing couple when they get up-close together on the dance floor.

Good Morning Britain host Ranvir has laughed off rumours she and Giovanni will be more than friends as she discussed her time so far on the show.

“If I got hit by the curse, it would be a b****y miracle!” she told OK! Magazine.

“Oh my God, that would be hilarious. Do you know most of the dancers were born in 1990 or something? I’m old enough to be their mother!

“It’s very optimistic and complimentary that anyone would think I would be struck by the curse.”

The presenter has also admitted to feeling embarrassed about the “very intimate” routines with Giovanni.

She told The Mirror: “You can’t do things half heartedly. I admit, it doesn’t come easily.

“You have to break down some of your own barriers and do things that can feel embarrassing at first.

“It’s very intimate. Then your face is right in their face. It’s taken a bit of getting used to.”

Tonight, the duo will perform an American Smooth routine to Aretha Franklin’s I Say A Little Prayer.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tonight at 7.15pm on BBC One.
