‘Excited’ Alexandra Burke cradles beautiful baby bump as she prepares to give birth
Alexandra Burke showed off her bare baby bump in a set of Instagram pictures last week as she told fans her due date is “just around the corner”.
The former X Factor winner explained she was “extremely excited” to be having her second child with partner Darren Randolph, as she shared images which included one of her cradling her bump and another of her cuddling up to Darren.
The singer, who turns 35 this week, captioned the photos, “No, this is not a flashback huns! Baby #2 is just around the corner. I’m nervous but extremely excited to meet the new addition to our little family. Feeling every single movement in my tummy lately and I smile with absolute gratitude to the universe for blessing us once again. We can’t wait to meet you little one.”
Daisy Lowe, 34, who had her first baby in April, commented, “So excited for you!!!” and fellow singer Pixie Lott, 32, who is due to give birth to her first baby next month, wrote, “Eeeeeek.”
Days earlier, Alexandra shared pictures of the white and grey “zen” nursery room the couple have in their home, complete with teddy bears, a toy dog and a giraffe.
The star wrote, “Our beautiful nursery. This room has been our zen place with the little one for the past year.”
Alexandra announced she was expecting a second child in April, just nine months after she and Darren, 36, had their first baby. Both Alexandra – who is set to reprise her role as Deloris Van Cartier in the stage production of the musical Sister Act later this year – and AFC Bournemouth goalkeeper Darren have opted to keep the name and gender of their first baby private in a bid to “protect” the child. But the singer has previously referred to the 13-month-old as “my little baby Grape”.
In a recent interview, she spoke about how she and Darren had planned to have another baby soon after their first, but never expected it to happen so quickly.
Alexandra said, “We were like, ‘Oh my gawd, it’s meant to be.’ God said, ‘Now’s the time.’”
Last month, the star shared a selfie of herself with Darren in a lift and wrote, “Life has been something special lately. A mixture of smiling, belly laughs, tiredness and just sitting down wondering how I got so lucky! Love you @_darrenrandolph – counting my blessings with you every day.” Darren replied, “My bestie.”
In June, the Bad Boys singer opened up about her “tough” second pregnancy, but added she wouldn’t change a thing.
Speaking to Alex Jones and Roman Kemp on BBC One’s The One Show, she said, “This is my second pregnancy. It’s tough but it’s such a blessing.”
Two months ago, she posted a family holiday selfie on Instagram where she told followers her “little Grape” had called her “Mama” for the first time.
“My heart is full of love and gratitude to the universe giving me all I’ve prayed for. I feel so blessed. How are you all? Sending love and light,” she wrote.
On Mother’s Day in March, Darren also used the nickname in a post where he gushed over his partner’s parenting skills.
“Little Grape has the best most caring and thoughtful mother around. You are doing a great job and we both couldn’t ask for more. We’re both extremely proud of you and everything you do.”
Alexandra later posted her own message on social media, thanking him and her baby for making her a “better person”. She wrote, “Can’t thank the hubby enough for making me feel so special and loved. My little baby Grape – thank you for making me a better person. For making me the best version of myself and showing up in ways I thought I never could… I am so lucky to be your mum.”
Calling Darren “hubby” in the post led her fans to speculate over whether they had quietly married, but this has never been confirmed.
The singer met Darren in 2021 after a difficult few years where she was grieving the loss of her mum, Soul II Soul singer Melissa Bell, who died in 2017, just before Alexandra started her stint on Strictly.
Speaking in a recent interview, she said she looked back at a journal she kept in 2019 where she’d written that she “really wanted” to meet the “right person that’s going to love me for who I am, and accept me and have a baby and have a family”. She added, “And here I am.”
She admitted parenting isn’t “without its challenges” but said the bond she felt with her newborn carried her through.
Speaking about balancing parenting with her career in musical theatre, she added, “Babies are adaptable and I’ve always said a baby shouldn’t come in and change someone’s life completely – you should all adapt to each other, which is exactly what we have done. We’re both relaxed parents, so it’s really flowed and been beautiful.”
