‘Emotional’ Les Dennis could get ‘overwhelmed’ by Strictly, Brendan Cole fears
Speaking about this year’s lineup of Strictly Come Dancing, the Brendan Cole opened up about getting to know Glitterball contender, Family Fortunes presenter Les Dennis.
Strictly pro Brendan called him “a lovely, charming man” but hinted that the pressure of the series could have an impact on Les, who may find it “overwhelming”.
He explained: “I know Les [Dennis] – I did a TV show with him where we walked for three weeks in Italy and he’s a lovely, charming man and I spoke with him when he first signed up. He called me – I think he wanted to pick my brains.
“You have two things with Les – he’s been in entertainment for such a long time so he knows how it works, he knows all about cameras, he knows all about saying and doing the right things, but when you’re put into a situation like Strictly, where it’s so pressurised – Les is quite an emotional fella. In fact, one of the most emotional people I’ve ever met,” he added to Sky Bingo.

The New Zealander continued by saying that Strictly “takes over” and that those who are set to compete can “actually combust.”
“The pressure of the show is massive for those involved, because it consumes you, it takes over your every waking thought for months on end sometimes and that pressure to do well, that pressure to do well for your partner, to do well in front of the nation, to do well for your family, is all a real pressure cooker so you can actually combust.
“As much as you need emotions on the show, those emotions can come to the surface and what I hope for Les is it doesn’t get overwhelming for him, because he takes things to heart quite a lot.”
The 69-year-old has previously revealed that when he was told he would be putting on his dancing shoes, it made his wife, Claire Nicholson, cry.

“My wife cried, in a good way!” the comedian divulged.
He admitted that they had been “anticipating” a call from Strictly bosses for him to join the lineup.
Les promptly called his wife to share the news, as he was touring in a production of the musical 42nd Street: “She was really thrilled, because we were waiting for a while to find out, and then, suddenly, we got the call.
“I was away on tour with 42nd Street, and I called her and said I’ve got it.”
Strictly Come Dancing airs on BBC One on Saturday 23rd September at 6.15pm.
