EastEnders’ Gary Webster pays loving tribute to mum who lost ‘four day’ battle with Covid

EastEnders actor Gary Webster, 56, has announced the death of his beloved mum who died on Thursday after contracting coronavirus four days before. He and his son Jack, 20, also tested positive for the illness, leaving three generations of their family affected.

Gary, who frsit appeared on the BBC soap as Graham Clark in 1987 then later returned in 2016 as Neville Peacock, took to Twitter on Monday to tell his followers of the sad news.

Alongside the loving caption, he shared a picture of his late mother sat beside his wife Wendy, with whom he also shares son Freddie, 17.

The actor wrote: “Thank you so much to everyone for such beautiful support to my son and I as we recover from Covid.

“Last Sunday my mum also contracted the virus. 3 generations in a week. I am devastated to say my mum didn’t make it & passed peacefully in her sleep last Thursday. She was much loved.”

The emotional post led many fans to rush to the comments section to share their condolences.

Among those paying their respects were his former soap co-stars and celebrity pals, including fellow EastEnders actress Lucy Benjamin, who said: “Omg Gary. I’m so sorry. Sending you all lots of love.”

Kacey Ainsworth, who plays Little Mo, added: “So sorry for your loss Gary.”

Emmerdale actress Laura Norton replied: “So sorry to hear that Gary. Sending Love.”

The admission comes just days after Gary revealed he and Jack had contracted the virus, and were “strictly isolating”.

He gave Twitter fans an update on both their health: “To all my followers please don’t think I’m ignoring anyone recently.

“It’s been a very sad and tough week part of which was my eldest testing Covid positive on Tuesday and me testing positive yesterday. So strictly isolating.

“Please wear masks. Social distance,” he urged.
