Dan Walker took to social media this morning to wish Alex Scott good luck in her new job. The former professional footballer turned sports pundit will make her debut on Football Focus tomorrow.

The 44-year-old TV star, who is best known for fronting BBC Breakfast, hosted the programme for 12 years until his departure earlier this year.

He described it as his “dream job” in an update which he shared on both Instagram and Twitter.

Alex, 36, who played for England and Arsenal W.F.C., will head to the studio this weekend to present the show for the very first time.

It comes hot off the heels of her appearance on BBC One presenting the network’s coverage of the Tokyo Olympics.

Dan posted a picture of the duo online as he wished her well in her new role.

Alongside the snap, he wrote: “Football Focus was my dream job & being able to do it for 12 years was an incredible privilege.

“A new chapter starts this weekend and I want to wish my friend @alexscott2 all the best in the chair.

“She has a great team around her and I’m sure she’ll be brilliant,” he added.

“You were superb Dan and Alex will be too,” one follower wrote in the comments section of the post, which he shared with his 198,000 Instagram followers.

“Great pundit and presenter to take up the mantle!” another added.

“Amazing, love Alex, she is such a wonderful role model for girls and young women in sport. Good luck to her,” a third remarked.

“You’ve got dance moves and the right combination of spandex and sequins to be thinking about my man.

“End of an era and the beginning of a new one for the brilliant @alexscott2,” remarked Radio 5 Live presenter Nihal Arthanayake, ahead of his stint in Strictly Come Dancing.

Earlier this week it was announced that Dan will be starring in the upcoming series on his breakfast show.

The father-of-three admitted that he was very nervous ahead of his dancing debut this autumn.

“I am definitely excited, a little bit worried, mostly terrified and a small part of me is considering going into hiding!” he said.

“My kids have only ever asked me to go on two shows… Saturday Mash Up and Strictly.

“I did Saturday Mash Up this summer so… it’s time to embrace the sequins,” Dan added.

Alex herself took part in Strictly in 2019.

She was partnered with Neil Jones and came fifth in the competition.
