Chelsea star reveals he’s set to sign new contract "in the coming days

Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso says he is on the verge of signing a new contract at Stamford Bridge.

The Spain international has impressed for the Blues since his arrival in 2016 and has been an ever-present under Maurizio Sarri so far this season.

Alonso has forced his way into Luis Enrique’s senior Spanish squad this term and while his current deal doesn’t run out until 2021, he has been offered an extension.

The ex-Fiorentina defender said: "I am very calm and very happy at Chelsea , and the club must also be happy with me because, although I still have two years left on my contract, they have offered me an extension.

"We are talking about it and the talks to renew are already advanced.

"If everything goes well, I think I will renew before the end of this month – in the coming days.

"My father takes care of that as he is the one who leads the negotiations," he added. "I am 27 years old, I still have two more years and I am going to extend my contract."

Alonso, 27, is set to feature for La Roja in their upcoming meetings with Wales and England – the latter in the UEFA Nations League – before returning to Premier League action with Sarri’s side.

He added that while his father deals with off-field concerns, his focus is firmly on on-pitch affairs.

"What concerns me is to play as well as possible to win matches and titles with Chelsea and with the national team. I’m calm with my contract."
