Channel 4 Bake Off winner Giuseppe brands contest as ’emotionally draining’

Giuseppe Dell'Anno, The Great British Bake Off winner for 2021, has branded the baking show ‘draining’ following his win.

Giuseppe wasannounced as the Bake Off winneron Tuesday 23 November, beating fellow contestants Crystelle and Chigs to the crown.

In the wake of his success, the 45 year old took to Instagram to thank people for their support, and discussed what the experience was like.

The talented Italian baker wrote: “You think you know what you’re getting yourself into when you sign up… it’s a physically, psychologically and emotionally draining experience. But also exciting and exhilarating.

“And I could have never done it without the support of my wife, my fellow bakers and the constant support from the production team!”

“Thank you all out there, for reaching out and showering me with love! I will be forever grateful!,” Giuseppe continued.

He has since been inundated with congratulations by celebrity viewers and fellow bakers.

Bake Off 2020 semi-finalist Hermione wrote: “You were exceptional,” followed with a string of clapping hands and party face emojis.

2019 finalist Alice Fevroni added: “Absolutely incredible Giuseppe. Can’t wait to buy yours and your dads book,” as fellow 2019 finalist Steph Blackwell wrote: “Superstar- so well deserved!”

Meanwhile, comedian Sarah Millican said: “Massive congrats. So well deserved. Can’t wait to see what you do next.”

2018 Bake Off winner Dr Rahul Mandal also took to the comments section to gush over his friend.

He wrote: “Well done Sir!! You are an amazing baker and an incredible friend! Loved meeting you last weekend, looking forward to meet you soon!! Congratulations!”

A few days prior to the final, Giuseppe shared a sweet snap of him meeting Rahul in Notting Hill, London, for the first time, and branded him as his "hero".

He captioned the post: “They say you shouldn’t meet your heroes. I say you should! @bakewithrahul it was a genuine pleasure!”

The last episode of the 2021 series of Bake Off aired as news emerged of the hit cooking show extending its contract with Channel 4 and Love Productions for another three years.

Bake Off originally was shown on BBC from the start of its first series in 2010 before switching to Channel 4 in 2017.
