Carragher compares Van Dijk to Ramos – makes very interesting point

Jamie Carragher believes Virgil van Dijk is in the "top group" of the world’s best centre-backs – but he’s not at the summit just yet.

The Holland international has come on leaps and bounds since leaving Celtic for Southampton and then signing for Liverpool in a deal worth £75million.

The transfer fee raised a few eyebrows, but Van Dijk has made it look like a drop in the ocean with continued brilliant performances in a Liverpool shirt.

Carragher, who won the Champions League at Liverpool, has been discussing the Dutchman’s worth to his former team, and believes he is top-drawer.

But he feels Van Dijk needs to win something first before he can be mentioned alongside the likes of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane.

"I think he’s right in the top group. Some people may put him top," Carragher told Soccer AM.
