Carol Vorderman, 60, opened up about her marriage to former international rugby league player Christoper Mather during Saturday’s edition of her radio show. The broadcaster explained how the absence of one item in the house made him realise she was “gone for good”.

Speaking about treasured possessions and what memories they brought back, Carol confessed: “I shouldn’t tell this story…”

She continued: “This was when I was married [for] the first time very briefly.

“And I left… Doesn’t matter – we were babies back then.

“And I left and then I went back and then I left again and my then-husband said to my mum, ‘I know she’s gone for good because the teddy bear’s gone’.”

Carol opened up about her teddy bear in previous interviews, explaining that the childhood keepsake holds a strong sentimental value because it watched her “grow from babyhood to womanhood.”

Carol’s first marriage lasted one year and she went on to marry management consultant Patrick King four years later in 1990.

The couple share two children. Katie was born in 1992 and Cameron born in 1997.

Carol has previously spoken out on her split from Patrick.

She confessed she had regrets about her divorce and that she could no longer get back together with him.

The TV star told Woman Magazine in 2021: “I never said why my marriage broke down and we’d agreed never to talk about it publicly.

“The divorce is a regret of mine and my mum thinks that we should have stayed together.

“He’s now remarried so there’s no chance of us getting back together.”

Last week, Carol teased having a new “man” in her life as she boasted a new addition to her life on Instagram.

She joked she had found a “new man” as she shared pictures of a grey 4x4 on Friday.

Carol wrote: “Telling you this… I’ve now got a MAN in my life @mantruckandbus. Grey, 4×4, VAN LIFE… ha.”

The broadcaster said she was “so excited” over her new camper van.

Carol added: “So lucky…..he (she) needs converting into my mobile heaven….and I’ll share it all the way….and the adventures to come…..bliss.”

She signed off the message with a string of hashtags: “#vanlifeuk #vanlife #campervanideas #man #adventures.”

Fans of the star took to the post’s comments section to admire the new addition, with one asserting it was “perfect” for her.
