The Chase presenter Bradley Walsh has become a grandad for the first time at the age of 61. The Larkins actor revealed his daughter Hayley Walsh, 39, secretly welcomed her first baby five months ago.

Bradley told fans in February that Hayley was pregnant, and she has since welcomed a baby boy with her husband Tom.

The star said: “I am a grandfather! My daughter and her husband Tom have had a baby boy, who is coming up for five months old.

“It’s been tricky as during lockdown no one could get to see their grandchildren.

“Thank God for FaceTime – it has kept people in touch.”

Bradley also shared an insight into how he’s planning on treating his grandson to sweet snacks as he grows up before handing him back to Hayley, who he has from a previous relationship.

He quipped in a new interview with Saga Magazine: “I’m going to be a brilliant grandfather because I’ve got this trick.

“When the baby grows into a toddler, make sure you spend plenty of time with them, feeding them ice cream and Coca-Cola, and then give them back at just the right time and say to your children, ‘There you are, that’s what you were like.’ “

Bradley has been married to wife Donna Derby – with whom he shares son Barney Walsh, 23, – since 1997.

The couple are planning to celebrate their silver wedding anniversary next year with a huge party.

Gushing about the milestone, Bradley added: “We’ll celebrate big time. I don’t know what we’ll do yet.

“My wife is an amazing person. She provides love and stability in my life.

“You need someone you gravitate towards, no matter where you go, and they become the centre of your universe.

Alongside his new role as a grandfather, Bradley has been very busy with his varied career on TV.

In recent years, the actor and TV host has flexed his acting muscle in Doctor Who as Graham O’Brien, while fronting The Chase, Blankety Blank, Beat the Chasers, and Take Off alongside Holly Willoughby.

The multi-talented star has also appeared in a travelogue for ITV, which follows his journeys alongside his son Barney, in Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad.

Bradley has now taken on a new acting job as Pop Larkin in ITV series, The Larkins.

When quizzed on how he balances his various roles on-screen, Bradley admitted he does worry about boring viewers.

The presenter recently told Radio Times: “You’ve got to be very careful of overkill.

“People can get very bored very quickly.”

Despite his concerns, Bradley was delighted to accept his role in The Larkins, as he believes the series is “needed” to “take the edge off” amid worries surrounding the coronavirus pandemic.
