Ben Affleck checks out rings in Tiffany's amid JLo reunion, more news

Ben Affleck reportedly browsed the ring department at Tiffany’s with his mother and son

Since they reunited in April, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have brought their kids together for multiple outings, including a trip to see “Hamilton” over the weekend. Now, a report from Page Six has fans wondering if the couple could be close to blending their families on paper, too. On Aug. 23, Ben was photographed looking at rings at a Tiffany’s store in Century City, Calif., with his mom and son in tow. According to Page Six, the rings were of the engagement variety, though it’s unclear from the pics alone. The actor previously proposed to then-girlfriend J.Lo back in 2002 with Harry Winston sparkler that was estimated to be worth about $2.5 million. They ended up calling off the wedding and moving on, romantically, in 2004, before they started seeing each other this spring.

Britney Spears’ dad claims conservatorship ‘saved’ her from ‘disaster’

Ahead of the next hearing in Britney Spears’ conservatorship case — where the 39-year-old singer hopes to see her father, Jamie Spears, removed from his position as manager of her financial affairs — Jamie claims the public would “praise” him if they knew the truth about the extent of Britney’s “addiction and mental health issues.” Though Jamie recently agreed to step down as estate conservator and work with his replacement towards a smooth “transition,” he also said he contests his daughter’s allegation that he has not acted in her best interests over the 13 years during which he’s controlled much of her life. “If the public knew all the facts of Ms. Spears’ personal life, not only her highs but also her lows, all of the addiction and mental health issues that she has struggled with, and all of the challenges of the Conservatorship, they would praise Mr. Spears for the job he has done, not vilify him,” his lawyer wrote in papers filed to the Los Angeles County Court in August, according to the Daily Mail. “But the public does not know all the facts, and they have no right to know, so there will be no public redemption for Mr. Spears,” the docs continue. The filing also features denials from Jamie about claims Britney’s made regarding being “forced” to take Lithium against her will. Jamie maintains it was former conservator Jodi Montgomery who OK’d the prescription drug plan in conjunction with the singer’s former psychiatrist and lawyer. He says he was doing nothing more than “paying the bills” for her psychiatric care, which he says often “went over” its agreed upon $10,000 a month budget. In conclusion, Jamie’s attorney writes:”There is no doubt that the Conservatorship saved Ms. Spears from disaster, supported her when she needed it the most, protected her and her reputation from harm, and facilitated the restoration of her career.” Britney and Jamie are due back in court Sept. 29.

Kanye West posts Drake’s home address on Instagram amid years-long feud

A long-running feud between Drake and Kanye West is very much on again after Kanye shared Drake’s alleged home address on his Instagram over the weekend, seemingly in retaliation for Drake’s latest lyrical jab at ‘Ye. On “Betrayal,” Drake new collaboration with Trippie Redd that landed on Aug. 22, Drizzy rhymes: “All these fools I’m beefin’ that I barely know / Forty-five, forty-four (burned out), let it go / Ye ain’t changin’ s— for me, it’s set in stone.” According to The Root, what’s “set in stone is the release date of Drake’s forthcoming album, “Certified Lover Boy,” which insiders expect will come out the same day Kanye finally releases his much-delayed album, “Donda.” Following the “Betrayal” drop, Kanye hopped on Instagram and posted cryptic screenshots of a group message with people including Pusha T and someone only ID’d as “D.” In the thread, ‘Ye sends a pic of The Joker — and a warning not to mess with him because whoever he’s talking to (presumably Drake) “will never recover.” The post was soon gone from the platform. A second post from Kanye — which is also no longer available but was shared via screenshot by fans — showed a map to an address in Toronto that social media users have said is Drake’s home. In Kanye’s post, the spot is marked with a mustache. Soon after that, Drake was back on his own Instagram, with a video of himself laughing while driving around.

Katie Thurston claps back at critics after edible post

Newly engaged “Bachelorette” star Katie Thurston took full advantage of her Sunday this past weekend, courtesy of a marijuana edible. “I just took an edible, laying on the floor of my living room surrounded by responsibilities, all while listening to medication music on Spotify. And how are you?” Katie, 30, tweeted on Aug. 22. While some fans teased her for typing “medication” instead of “meditation” music — “… maybe this edible already hit,” she joked — others took issue with the post. “Not a very good role model to the younger viewers of @bachnation,” one user replied. The reality star, however, shut the person down pretty quickly. “Because I’m consuming a legal drug at a legal age within a legal state?” the Seattle-based star asked. The exchange set off a whole litany of responses from fans, most of whom appeared to be on Team Katie as they cited health benefits of edibles versus alcohol as an occasional adult indulgence. Katie and Blake Moynes, 29, announced their engagement on the show’s season 17 finale on Aug. 9.

Mayim Bialik stepping in as ‘Jeopardy!’ guest host after Mike Richards controversies: Report

Following Mike Richards’ messy exit from the host chair on “Jeopardy!,” Mayim Bialik will be the first guest host for nightly episodes set to be taped this week, CNN reported on Aug. 23. She’s expected to host three weeks’ worth of shows, sources told the outlet. Mayim had been tapped to host primetime specials, while Mike took on the weekday shows. He stepped down as host and back into his executive producer role last week amid controversy around offensive remarks he’d made about women, Jewish people and other groups on a podcast he hosted while producing “The Price Is Right.” Prior to that scandal, first reported by The Ringer, critics took aim at his alleged role in two workplace discrimination suits filed by models on “The Price Is Right” during his tenure. According to CNN’s sources, Sony wants to avoid a long “audition process” for the next host, making Mayim “a real viable choice” to potentially take on the job.

Elliot Page reveals which ’90s film helped him overcome ‘shame’ about LGBTQ+ identity

After coming out as transgender on Dec. 1, Elliot Page is highlighting the importance of of telling stories about the LGBTQ+ experience in film. The “Umbrella Academy” star was presented with this year’s Annual Achievement Award at the Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ Film Festival on Aug. 22, and used his platform to explain the powerful effect one film in particular had on him while growing up as Ellen Page. “I, for one, know that without the various representation that I was able to stumble upon as a kid and a teenager — there was very little — I just don’t know if I would have made it,” Elliot, 34, told the audience, according to Variety. “I don’t know if I would have made it through the moments of isolation and loneliness and shame and self-hatred that was so extreme and powerful and all-encompassing that you could hardly see out of it.” He went on to recall discovering “But I’m a Cheerleader,” at age 15 “while flipping through channels.” Said Elliot: “… the dialogue in that film, and scenes in that film just transform your life. I almost think we don’t talk enough about how important representation is and enough about how many lives it saves and how many futures it allows for.” The 1999 cult classic stars Natasha Lyonne as a high school cheerleader whose parents send her to a gay conversion therapy camp, where she falls in love with another girl. Eliot said that while it’s “infuriating” how far Hollywood still has to go when it comes to representation, “It’s [Outfest] and organizations like yourself that are completely changing that and helping get stories out in the world that I know are reaching people in moments where they feel desperately alone and afraid and like they have no sense of community.”
