The Vicar of Dibley in lockdown to remember Alice Tinker in the most fitting way
Dawn French has stepped up as a true Christmas saviour by announcing her beloved The Vicar of Dibley will return over the festive period as we catch up with Geraldine Granger in lockdown.
The Vicar of Dibley’s final episode aired back in 2007, 15 years before the death of Emma Chambers, who will forever have a place in millions of hearts as the adorablely clueless Alice Tinker.
Naturally then, the upcoming three 10 minute episodes – which will follow Geralidine’s monthly sermons, one in lockdown, one post lockdown and one pre another lockdown – will pay homage to Geraldine’s best pal in Dibley.
‘Geraldine will be helped by Hugo Horton (James Fleet) as well some of the local primary school children as the Vicar discusses all the important topics, including how it’s never a good idea to let Owen Newitt cut your hair, or make home-made wine,’ said the BBC.
‘The very dearly departed Alice Tinker is also still an important presence in the village, with some residents still looking for lost buttons and the arrival of decimalisation.’
Dawn enthused: ‘Back in the dog collar, back in Dibley and back on your telly at Xmas. I couldn’t be happier. Bless you.’
Chambers died suddenly of a heart attack, aged 53, in 2018.
From picking apart Geraldine’s jokes to giving birth dressed as Mary in the Christmas nativity, Alice was a runaway favourite with Vicar of Dibley audiences and an ireplacable cog in the long-running comedy.
Following Chambers’ death, French paid tribute to the actress.
